Managing licenses

In M-Files Cloud, it is not necessary to manage the server and module licenses manually. In other M-Files environments, you get the necessary license information from the Licenses page in M-Files Manage.

The Licenses page shows licenses and keys related to your subscription and lets you copy or download them. In addition, you can create new API keys for applications, such as M-Files Aino
Note: Only Subscription Admin users can view the Licenses page.

  • The Server license section shows the serial number and license code that activate your M-Files subscription.
  • The Additional licenses section lets you download license files of modules (for example, vault applications) included in your subscription. You can download a specific license file with the Download icon next to the module name or download all licenses as a ZIP file with the Download all option. Usually, customers do not need to download or install add-on licenses manually because license automation handles them. Manual download and installation is only needed if the customer uses self-service license delivery and does not use license automation.
  • In the API keys section, you can see and copy M-Files API keys for your M-Files components, such as Smart Classifier, Smart Metadata, and so on.
  • The Generate an on-premises API key section lets you create an on-premises API key to use M-Files Aino. To create the key, you need to enter the Vault GUID. You can find your vault GUID by opening the context menu for the vault in M-Files Admin and selecting Properties.

Are you a new customer?

In M-Files Cloud, the M-Files subscription is automatically activated for all new customers.

In other environments, you must install the server license yourself in M-Files Admin with the license information shown in the Server license section. For instructions, refer to the M-Files user guide.

Important: For security reasons, the server license code is not fully shown in M-Files Manage. To get the complete license code, select the Copy icon next to it.

Do you need to install licenses yourself?

In M-Files Cloud, you do not need to install any licenses yourself. In other environments, you must install the server license for new M-Files servers. After the activation, you get the licenses automatically for official M-Files add-ons if the subscription uses license automation. If manual installation of module licenses is necessary, refer to the M-Files user guide for instructions.
