Updating

Automatic updates keep the software up to date. If a newer version of becomes available, it is downloaded and installed automatically. You can delay automatic updates for a limited time if you are working on something important when an automatic update becomes available.

Note: For the automatic updates to run, local administrative permissions on your computer are not necessary.

When a new version becomes available, you see a notification in the top area of . Select Options to schedule or start the software update.

The feature gets the latest update information from the update server using HTTPS on TCP port 443. This means that normally it is not necessary for you to change any firewall settings.

Settings for automatic updates

To open the settings for automatic updates, open the context menu of the icon () in the notification area and select Settings > Automatic Updates.

Note: If your system admin manages the settings for automatic updates, you cannot change them and all options are not necessarily visible.

For a high-level description on how downloads the update packages when the Download updates automatically option on the Settings tab is enabled, see Update download process. To make sure that your software is always up to date, do not disable automatic updates.

To check for updates manually, open the Installation tab and select Check Now. If an update package is available, it is downloaded to your computer.

Note: If automatic updates are disabled, you must have local administrative permissions on your computer to install an available update.

To disable the automatic installation of updates, open the Settings tab and deselect the Install updates automatically check box. To start the installation of available updates manually, open the Installation tab and select Install. If the Install button is disabled, there are no updates available for installation.

In the Installation schedule section of the Installation tab, you can select the preferred days and time of installing updates. It is recommended that you select a date and time that is outside of working hours so that installations do not interrupt operations in your organization. Note that the computer must be running and not in sleep or hibernate mode when the update is scheduled to be installed. If the computer is not running when the scheduled installation time occurs, the update is attempted to be installed or scheduled the next time the computer is started.
