Global search

Important: Global search is currently available only in the new M-Files Desktop.

You can use global search to find items from all vaults that you have access to. M-Files searches all these vaults at the same time.

Note: Global search searches in all vaults that you are logged into. When you do a global search, your search words can be recorded in the User action log of different vaults. If you are connected to vaults from different organizations and your search includes sensitive information, do one of these steps:
  • Log out from vaults in which you do not want to search.
  • Open only one vault and search in it.

To do a global search in all vaults that you are logged into:

  1. On the top area of the user interface, select the Home icon ().
    Result:The Home screen opens.
  2. Enter one or more search words to the search field. Then select the Search icon () or select Enter.
    Result:For each vault, M-Files shows how many results were found and the most relevant results.
  3. Optional: Below the search field, select an object type.
    This object type filters the search results. By default, the first object type from the left is selected.
  4. Select Open in the vault widget.
    Result:The vault opens in a new window where you can see more search results.
