Global Search

You can use global search to find items from all vaults that you can access. M-Files searches all these vaults at the same time.

Important: Global search is currently available only in the new M-Files Desktop.
Note: Global search searches in all vaults that you are logged into. When you do a global search, your search words can be recorded in the User action log of different vaults. If you are connected to vaults from different organizations and your search includes sensitive information, do one of these steps:
  • Log out from vaults in which you do not want to search.
  • Open only one vault and search in it.

To do a global search:

  1. Select the Home icon () to open the Home screen.
The Home screen has two parts: the search field is on the left, and the vault widgets are on the right. The vault widgets show all the vaults you have access to. Depending on your login status, you can either open a vault directly or log in first.
  2. Type one or more search words to the search field. Then select the Search icon () or select Enter
M-Files shows how many results were found in each vault. It also shows the most relevant results directly in the vault widgets. If you are not logged into a vault, you must log in before you can see its results.
  3. Select Open in the vault widget.
Result:The vault opens in a new window where you can see more search results.
If you close the Global search results window, select the Home icon () to go back to the Home screen.
