Making PDFs of objects

You can convert content in M-Files to PDF and download documents in the PDF format.

Converting to PDF

To convert a file to PDF format, right-click an object in the listing area and select one of these options:

Option Description
Convert > Convert to PDF (adds separate file) M-Files converts the selected file to PDF format and keeps the original version of it. If you convert a single-file document, M-Files converts it to a multi-file document and adds the PDF file to it.
Convert > Convert to PDF (replaces original file) M-Files converts the selected file to PDF format and replaces the original file, for example a Word file, with the PDF file.

Saving content as PDF

To download a file in PDF format, right-click an object in the listing area and select Convert > Save as PDF. M-Files converts the selected file to PDF format and downloads it to the location set in your web browser's settings. If you save a multi-file document as PDF, M-Files adds the converted PDF files into a single ZIP file.

Converting files to a searchable PDF

You can convert images and non-searchable PDFs to searchable PDFs. The conversion is available for these file formats:

  • TIF
  • TIFF
  • JPG
  • JPEG
  • BMP
  • PNG
  • PDF

To convert a file to a searchable PDF:

  1. Find the file that you want to convert.
  2. Open the context menu and select Convert > Convert to searchable PDF.
  3. In the Convert to searchable PDF dialog, select one of these options:
    • Use default (English) to have M-Files recognize the text in English.
      or
    • Use automatic language detection to set M-Files to automatically detect the file language.
      or
    • Select manually and select primary and secondary language options to match the language used in the file. This improves the quality of the text recognition.
The file is converted to a searchable PDF and any textual content can be found with M-Files search.
