Sharing content

To share M-Files content with other M-Files users, you can use the Copy internal link action in the context menu.

To share M-Files content with people who do not have access to M-Files, you can use the Share dialog. In the dialog, you can give access to only people who are added as visitors, or anyone with a link.

Sharing with visitors

People who are added as visitors to a file can use a link to download the file.

To add visitors:

  1. Open the context menu for a file and select Share.
    Result:The Share dialog opens.
  2. In the Share dialog, enter one or more email addresses in the Add visitor field.
  3. Select Share.
    Make a note that this action does not send the link to the visitors.
  4. On the top-right corner of the dialog, select Copy link and send the link to the visitors.
The people you added as visitors can now use the link to download the file. To see and manage visitors, select Manage visitors in the Share dialog.

Sharing with anyone with the link

When access is set to anyone with the link, anyone can use the link to open the file without authentication.

To share with anyone with the link:

  1. Open the context menu for a file and select Share.
    Result:The Share dialog opens.
  2. Select Set access type.
    Result:The Set access type dialog opens.
  3. Select Anyone with the link.
  4. Set the expiration date.
  5. Select Apply.
  6. On the top-right corner of the dialog, select Copy link and send the link to anyone you want.
Anyone with the link can download the file until the expiration date. You can change the expiration date later if needed. Visitors continue to have access also after the expiration date.
