Automation Types

In M-Files Ment, templates can include automation to make document creation faster and more consistent. Automation reduces manual work and makes sure that documents are generated based on user input and available data.

Each template includes a set of questions. These questions guide the automation process and determine how the document is generated.

M-Files Ment supports three types of automation: inline, block, and free-text field(s). Inline and block automation let users select between predefined answers. Based on the answers, specific text can appear or disappear in the document.

When the M-Files integration is enabled, metadata (for example customer name, address, or phone number) can be automatically retrieved from the M-Files vault. This metadata is then used to complete free-text fields when the document is generated.

Automation type Description
Inline

Use inline automation to automate one or more lines of text inside a paragraph. Inline automation supports single-choice and multiple-choice questions, where the user selects one or more answers from a list.

Place inline automation within sentences.

Block

Use block automation to automate full blocks of texts, such as paragraphs. Block automation also supports single-choice and multiple-choice questions.

Place block automation between paragraphs.

Free-text field(s)

Use free-text field(s) automation when the user types an answer or when the system fills in the fields with M-Files metadata. For example, when you select a customer it can complete fields such as company name, address, or phone number.

Place free-text field(s) automation anywhere in the document.
