Creating Documents

Note: If your administrator has configured and enabled M-Files Aino Metadata, M-Files creates metadata suggestions automatically when you drag and drop a new document to M-Files. Hover over the Info icon () of the suggested value to see why that value is suggested. You can remove or change values that are not correct.

To create a document:

  1. Click the Create icon () in the top right corner of the user interface.
  2. Click Document.
  3. Complete one of these steps:
    • Select a template.
      or
    • Select a class and a file type.
    If you select a template, M-Files automatically fills in the class and selects the file type.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Enter the metadata for the object.
    Mandatory fields show an asterisk (*).
  6. Complete one of these steps:
    • Select Open for editing to edit the document before others can see it.
      or
    • Select Check in immediately to make the document visible to other users right away.
  7. Click Create.
