Editing documents with the new M-Files Desktop

To edit a document with the new M-Files Desktop:

  1. Open the context menu for the document in the listing area.
  2. Select Open.
  3. Select Check out.
    This makes sure that only you can edit the document.
    To edit a document that is checked out to someone else, open the context menu for the document and select Ask object to be checked in.
    The file types listed at the end of this page are automatically opened in the read-only state.
  4. Make and save your changes to the document.
  5. Close the application.
  6. Select Yes when M-Files asks if you want to check in the document.
Your edits are checked in to the vault and other users can see them.

The file types listed here are automatically opened in the read-only state:

  • DWF and DWFX
  • EML
  • GIF
  • HTM and HTML
  • JPE, JPEG, and JPG
  • LNK
  • MFLINK
  • MHT
  • MP3 and MP4
  • MPE, MPEG, and MPG
  • MSG
  • PDF
  • PNG
  • TIF and TIFF
  • WAV
  • WM, WMA, and WMV
  • XPS
