Viewing Object History

You can use the object history feature to see a list of previous object versions. You can also replace the most recent object version with a previous one.

To open the Version history view of an object:

  1. In the listing area, click the object with the secondary mouse button.
  2. Select Open version history.
The Version history view is shown on the listing area. In the list, you can view the metadata and content of previous object versions and roll back to a previous version.

Viewing details of previous object versions

To view the metadata and content of a previous object version:

  1. In the listing area, click the object with the secondary mouse button.
  2. Select Open version history.
  3. In the Version history view, you can do, for example, these tasks:

    View the metadata of the object version

    Select a version and open the Metadata tab on the right edge of the window.

    Tip: You can hold Ctrl or Shift and select many object versions to see which metadata values have changed. If the value is (varies), the value is different in the selected versions.

    View the content of a document version

    Select a version and open the Preview tab on the right edge of the window. You can also double-click a document version to open a read-only version of it.

    Create a link to the object version

    Hover the cursor on a version and click the link icon ().

  4. To go back to the normal listing view, click Close version history.

Restoring a previous object version

To restore (roll back to) a previous object version:

  1. In the listing area, click the object with the secondary mouse button.
  2. Select Open version history.
  3. Select a version in the list.
  4. Click Roll back to selected version.
  5. In the confirmation dialog, select Roll back.
M-Files creates a new version of the object with the metadata and the content of the version you selected in step 3. Finally, click Close version history.
