Setting Up a Microsoft 365 Connection

To authorize the Microsoft 365 experience and enable desktop co-authoring, you must first grant tenant-wide admin consent to the M-Files SharePoint Embedded (SPE) Application. Then, the application can create file storage containers in your organization's Microsoft 365 tenant and manage only those containers.

To grant tenant-wide admin consent, make sure you have a Microsoft Entra ID user account with one of these roles:

  • Privileged Role Administrator, for granting consent for apps requesting any permission, for any API.
  • Cloud Application Administrator or Application Administrator, for granting consent for apps requesting any permission for any API, except Microsoft Graph app roles (application permissions).
  • A custom directory role that includes the permission to grant permissions to applications, for the permissions required by the application.

Use M-Files Manage to authorize the Microsoft 365 experience for your subscription. Currently available Microsoft 365 experience: Microsoft Office.

  1. Make sure that you have permission to give tenant-wide admin consent.
  2. Log in to M-Files Manage at https://manage.m-files.com.
  3. On the Home page, find the Microsoft 365 experience section and select Authorize.
  4. Provide the Microsoft 365 Tenant ID when prompted.
For information on where to find the Tenant ID, see How to find your tenant ID in Microsoft documentation.

After you give consent, you can enable Microsoft 365 storage for each vault individually with M-Files Admin. This also enables desktop co-authoring.

To complete the setup, refer to Enabling Desktop Co-Authoring in the classic M-Files user guide.
