Setting up a Microsoft 365 connection
To authorize the Microsoft 365 experience and enable desktop co-authoring, you must first grant tenant-wide admin consent to the M-Files SharePoint Embedded (SPE) application. With the consent, the application can create file storage containers in your organization's Microsoft 365 tenant and manage only those containers. Currently, the available Microsoft 365 experience is Microsoft Office.
To grant tenant-wide admin consent, you must have a Microsoft Entra ID user account with one of these roles:
- Privileged Role Administrator
- Cloud Application Administrator
- Application Administrator
- A custom directory role that includes the permission to grant permissions to applications
For more information on the roles, refer to Microsoft Entra built-in roles in Microsoft Learn.
To authorize the Microsoft 365 experience for your subscription:
- Log in to M-Files Manage at https://manage.m-files.com.
-
On the Home page, select Set up on the
Microsoft 365 section.
Result:The Microsoft 365 dialog opens.
-
In the dialog, enter the Microsoft
Entra tenant ID.
For information on where to find the tenant ID, refer to How to find your tenant ID in Microsoft documentation.
- Optional:
Enter the Microsoft SharePoint URL.
This field is shown only if you have configured Microsoft SharePoint.
-
Select Continue.
Result:The Microsoft Entra single sign-on (SSO) dialog opens.
-
In the dialog, sign in with Microsoft Entra SSO and complete the sign-in.
During the sign-in, you must give administrator consent for the Microsoft 365 experience.
After you give consent, you can enable Microsoft 365 storage for each vault with M-Files Admin. This also enables desktop co-authoring.
To complete the setup, refer to Enabling Desktop Co-Authoring in the classic M-Files user guide.
