Editing Documents with Desktop Applications

To edit a document with a desktop application:

  1. Make sure that you have the M-Files Web Companion application installed.
  2. Open the context menu for the document in the listing area.
  3. Select Open in desktop app.
  4. Select Check out.
    This makes sure that only you can edit the document.
    To edit a document that is checked out to someone else, open the context menu for the document and select Ask object to be checked in.
  5. Make your changes in the desktop application.
  6. Save the changes and close the desktop application.
  7. In M-Files, open the context menu for the document in the listing area.
  8. Select Check in.
Your edits are checked in to the vault and can be seen by other users.
