Managing widget filters

Widget filters control which content is shown in M-Files widgets. Filters are based on metadata properties from the selected M-Files vault and apply to widgets that support them.

Depending on the configuration level and purpose, filters can be configured in different ways.

Filter types overview

M-Files widgets can have three types of filters:

Filter type Applies to Affects
View filter Views or grouping levels One widget
Object filter Object elements One widget
End-user filter (widget level) Selected properties One widget
Note: Not all filter types are available for all widget types.
  • View filters are available only for M-Files Views widgets.
  • Object filters and end-user filters are available for all M-Files widgets that support filtering.

View filters

View filters control which sub-views are visible in the M-Files Views widget. They do not filter objects. They filter the structure of the view hierarchy.

Use the view filters when you want to:
  • Show only specific sub-views
  • Hide unwanted parts of the view hierarchy
View filters use properties such as view name and user related values (for example, user group).

Object filters

Object filters limit which objects appear in the widget results. Use object filters when you want to filter objects based on metadata properties.

Object filters can use:
  • Custom values
  • Prefilled values
  • Dynamic values

End-user filters

End-user filters let administrators define which properties end users can use to refine results in the widget.

When a user selects a value:
  • Only the widget is updated.
  • Other widgets on the page are not affected.
End-user filters are configured individually for each widget.
