Creating a Cloud Vault

Note: You cannot delete a vault in M-Files Manage.

To create a cloud vault:

  1. Log in to M-Files Manage at https://manage.m-files.com.
  2. In the top-right corner of the user interface, click Create ().
  3. Select Create cloud vault.
  4. In the Create cloud vault dialog, enter the mandatory fields.
M-Files uses the entered or selected values to automatically fill subsequent fields or show the available options for them.
For more information, see the sub-steps.
    1. In Name, enter a name for the vault.
The allowed characters are upper and lower case alphabets from A to Z, numbers from 0 to 9, hyphens, underscores, and spaces.
    2. In Vault address, enter a unique name, sometimes called a domain name, as the first node.
The address can only contain letters, numbers, and hyphens. A hyphen cannot be the first or the last character.
    3. Optional: In Service type, select Multi-tenant or Isolated.
The available options depend on your agreement. If you select Isolated, you are the only tenant in the service.
    4. In Vault template, the default vault template is empty, which creates a baseline vault ready for configuration.
  5. Click Create.
During the vault creation, do not refresh the page. However, you can visit other pages in M-Files Manage.

Depending on the template, the vault creation can take a long time. You will automatically get the full control rights to the vault. When the vault is created, you can access the vault in M-Files Web. To do this, click the vault address link and enter your credentials.

Next, create a connection to the newly created vault in M-Files Admin.

  1. On the Vaults page in M-Files Manage, select the newly created vault and click Show additional information.
  2. In the Additional information dialog, check and write down the vault address, vault port, and vault protocol.
  3. In M-Files Admin, set up a new connection:
    1. In Server name, enter the vault address.
    2. In Port number, enter the vault port.
    3. In Protocol, select the protocol that you have in M-Files Manage for the vault.
    4. In Authentication, select a suitable option.
    5. Click OK.
  4. Optional: If you do not use M-Files authentication, specify the authentication options according to the instructions in the Document Vault Authentication section of the M-Files user guide.
  5. Click the new connection in the left-side tree view and enter your credentials.

You now have a connection between M-Files Admin and the new vault that you created in M-Files Manage. You can use all the features of M-Files Manage.

When you create login accounts in M-Files Admin, you will see the login accounts also in M-Files Manage. Also, the login accounts that you create in M-Files Manage are visible in M-Files Admin.
